During an on camera interview on May 15, 2020 with Ari Melber and John Stanton, on MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber,” native Houston rap legend Scarface shares with the public how March 7th, 2020 marked a pivotal turning point in his life. After waking up that morning suffering from bilateral pneumonia, Scarface headed to the emergency room to then find out that he had also contracted the covid-19 virus. To make matters worse, both of his kidneys were failing during this time, but is not clear if covid-19 is the cause. He spent 32 days battling the three ailments confined to his own home due to skepticism of the true effectiveness of ventilators and hospital procedures. During this period, he also lost 40 pounds, dropping from 224 pounds to 184 pounds, which he says is a result fluid drainage from dialysis machines.
Prior to these extreme health conditions seeming to team up and ambush Scarface, he had already been battling with other known preconditions including asthma, hypertension and congenital heart failure. He calls his survival ” a miracle, ” revealing that he was told by his doctor that he undoubtedly should have been in part of the 85,000 who had died to date from the corona virus.

Since the airing, Scarface’s conditions have not improved. He is now in need of a transplant kidney as both of his own kidneys have finally failed completely. On 10/7/2020, he used his twitter platform to make a public plea stating, “I need a kidney y’all any volunteers? B+ blood type,” hoping that someone will be kind enough to donate him a kidney. Initially he thought that his donor was excusive to the population with B+ blood types, but later he learned that any kidney donated in his name would then give him the opportunity to participate in the organ exchange program, which affords prospective patients the ability to expedite the process if a kidney of their blood type is available. They will simply take the donor kidney and replace it for an available one that matches their need, causing no person who is already on the donor list to be moved down on the list. So if there is anyone who wishes to donate a kidney, all blood types are welcome.
