Native Atlanta rap legend T.I. came offering his support for Houston native rap legend Scarface by posting a screenshot of a Scarface tweet, in which he let the world know that he was in need of a kidney donor for transplant. With the post, he added the captain “Love & Prayers To Da Homie @brothermob We got a bag for a volunteer… who b+? serious inquiries only hit my dms to verify ya B+ blood type.

Scarface, in need of a kidney donor, turned to social media in search of a donor. He made a tweet on October 7, 2020 saying, “I need a kidney y’all any volunteers B+ blood type”. Since then he has made a couple more tweets saying “I’ve started the processes to get a new kidney transplant, I appreciate all the love! it should take me 2-3 months to see if I’m a good candidate, in the meantime you stay healthy, the lists will open shortly there after and we can discuss who’s a match.. again I appreciate that y’all..” he then came back a few hours later with a bit of optimism saying, “Just found out blood type don’t matter if you’re a donor they will match me with my kidney in exchange so anyone can be a donor, cant thank y’all enough.

According to the American Red Cross, B+ blood type has a prevalence of 18% in the black community, 6% in white, 25% in Asian and 9% in Latino. But luckily for Scarface, hospitals have transplant programs that will make the process a lot less mentally strenuous on those in need.

There has been speculation in regards to the legality of T.I’s request. According to the federal code §274e. Prohibition of organ purchases: It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly acquire, receive, or otherwise transfer any human organ for valuable consideration for use in human transplantation if the transfer affects interstate commerce. The preceding sentence does not apply with respect to human organ paired donation.
